      VEJA Sustainability efforts

Veja produces responsible sneakers that stand the test of time. As a B Corp company, Veja ensures that during the production of their sneakers, they treat the planet and people with respect. The materials used to make the sneakers are chosen carefully such as organic cotton. Organic cotton is made by farmer associations in Brazil and Peru that harvest it with respect for people and the environment. They work directly with organic cotton producers and buy the cotton at a marker-decorrelated price. All of the cotton used is certified. The soles of the sneakers are made of 20 to 30% of natural Amazonian rubber. This is because they aim to enhance the economic value of the Amazon forest so we are more likely to protect it. For Veja, transparency is a key aspect of their brand, such as chemical transparency. Every year, they check the chemical safety of their sneakers to ensure they have eliminated all hazardous chemicals from their production process. Veja uses 85% of materials that are considered environmentally ‘preferred’ materials such as ChromeFree leather, organic jute, C.W.L., and more. They also upcycle products by recycling materials or products that are no longer of use, to create materials like B-Mesh made from recycled plastic bottles. For their packaging, they use 60% recycled cardboard and virgin materials that are FSC certified.
